Her childhood dream fulfilled...

"As a youngster I dreamed of becoming a nurse!” laughs Kim, El Portal Imaging Center’s Registered Nurse. She explains, “When we were kids and my brothers played army soldiers I was the army nurse that helped them recover quickly when they got wounded. I sewed many a virtual stitch back then and never lost a troop!”

Kim stayed the course, earned her R.N. in 1984, then worked in oncology and emergency for a number of year each. In the late nineties tragedy struck when Kim lost her husband to a rare form of cancer leaving her with three young daughters age 9 and under. Through a divinely guided set of circumstance she met and eventually married, Bernie Marks, who had lost his wife to an auto accident and left him with two sons. They became the Brady bunch and even became guardians for a sixth child, another girl.

Kim stopped work completely for a number of years to raise all the children. Now that most of them are college age or older she has room to work again. She joined the El Portal staff in 2010. Kim shares, “I love the EPIC staff. They are very helpful, work as a team, and put the patients needs first. I haven’t always seen that in my other workplaces. It’s a joy.”

Patient Education is first on Kim list of serving. She likes supporting patients with good information through every aspect of their care and concerns.
